Introducing Larro

Mon May 18, 2009, 2:57 PM
Well, I'm fairly "new" to DA in that I've had an account on here since a little over a year now and have recently discovered that this is a pretty damn cool place for artists to hang out on the web. I've abandoned my old account (there was virtually nothing there anyway) because I'm in the process of reinventing my web persona (to a degree).

I am primarily an amateur blogger with a focus on atheism and secularism to which my web persona has entailed for a few years now. Essentially I'm taking back my own identity as "Larro". This is not to say that I'm abandoning atheism or anything like that or that I've "found God"; that's not it at all really. I just don't want to be known as that "ungodly cynic" guy. My friends and family call me Larro affectionately and I'd like this to extend as deeply into my online presence as I can possibly accomplish.

Aside from the above statement I'm going to refrain from such topics as atheism and politics here on DA; in that DA is not exactly the place for such discussions (unless warranted; as in a Group). Besides, I really do not want to add one more journal to my already expanded fora; it's hard enough keeping up with the ones I have as it is.

So, what else?

I am vegan for ethical reasons and as is obvious: not for religious reasons. It's my little part I can play for saving the environment as well as thumbing my nose at agribusiness.

I was born and raised in the State of Michigan, USA and attended public school all of my pre-college years. When I graduated from high school I went off to the sunshine State of Florida to attend the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. My major was advertising design (to which I should have majored in graphic design) but I lasted less than a semester on account of getting involved with drugs and the "wrong crowd". After relocating back to Michigan I attended some art classes at my local community college but never followed through with my education in art, nor a career for that matter.

Currently I work for a local non-profit assisting seniors and disabled in their transportation needs. Some would call me a chauffeur and that's okay; I just say I drive old people around. I love it. It's the best job I've ever had in that I really, deep down, feel like a contributing member to society. A true Samaritan.

I love my beer. I have my cheap staples but I prefer Guinness hands down. Alcohol is about the only drug I partake these days (aside from caffeine, etc.)

I am a metalhead and an amateur guitarist. I play off and on for my own pleasure; though at times in my past I have played in garage and basement bands.

Some of my favorite bands are:
Slayer, Amorphis, Sepultura, Six Feet Under, Tiamat, Entombed... Well, you can see the rest here -> [link]

So, let me just say that I am getting really addicted to DA now and intend to get my scanner hooked up so I can scan my sketchbooks and upload the drawings that I have not yet presented. Most are minor sketches and what is in my gallery are my personal favorites.

I almost forgot. I love to read though I am not as avid a reader these days. I'm mostly into sci-fi/fantasy, historical fiction, alternate history, detective fiction/mystery with authors such as Tad Williams, Elizabeth Moon, Douglas Adams, Richard Adams, Gene Wolfe, Storm Constantine, Caleb Carr, Judith Tarr, Harry Turtledove, Tolkien, Martin Cruz Smith, Anne Rice, Edward Rutherfurd, Michael Moorcock, Patrick O'Brien, Robert Harris, Stephen Grundy, Diana Gabaldon, Michael Curtis Ford, David Brin, Frank Herbert, Morgan Llywelyn, H. P. Lovecraft, Gary Jennings, A. A. Attanasio

So, I hope you all enjoy my pieces and thanks for reading.

  • Mood: I Have To Pee
  • Listening to: Obituary - Cause of Death
  • Reading: The Bible
  • Watching: a weevil crawl across my keyboard
  • Playing: at trying to get this bio right
  • Eating: my own words?
  • Drinking: Natural Light
